Hi, I’m Chiara and Luna Caffe is my dream come true.
I was born in Italy, in the region of Emilia Romagna – the home of Tortellini, Balsamic vinegar, Mortadella, Parma ham, Parmesan Cheese and Ferrari!!.
When you grow up in Italy, food is a central part of everything; passion, friendships, sharing, spending time with family. Food is a never-ending love affair, around which everyday life revolves. It’s perhaps no surprise that I have always loved cooking, especially baking. At the age of 14, I decided that I wanted to attend cookery school to continue my education, but there wasn’t a suitable academic school nearby. I had no choice but to sideline my passion for food, whilst I finished studying.
In 2001 I moved to London. It was a huge change, I was suddenly exposed to many different cultures and cuisines – it was heaven to me, all of these different foods to try and new flavours to discover. I found work with a catering company, and my passion for cooking came back stronger than ever. It was around this time that I started to contemplate the idea of opening my own place.
I had travelled a lot in Scotland through work, and I quickly fell in love with the country, the people and the landscapes. In 2015, I decided to move here permanently and after a few years I felt brave enough to open my own cafe, to finally fulfil my dream of cooking for a living. I would have never had been able to open the business without the support of my dear friend Davide, who became my chef partner here at Luna Caffe and my partner JJ.
LunaP, in the picture with me, is my beloved cat and the reason why the cafe is call Luna (yes, there is also a hint of Sailor Moon Anime in the name’s origin).
